Birds of a Feather

So...

The other day, I was watching a group of pigeons doing what it is that the very noble pigeon does... not very much. I saw a few fly off and either come back, or be replaced by the exact number that left. I wondered is roaming birds like pigeons, gulls, and so on have a primary group and a secondary group that they stay in.

For instance. Take one of those pigeons in that group... did they grow up with the others in that group? Do they venture out and find new more exciting pigeons to hang out with during the day and come back to their 'family' group at night? Or do they simply stay with the group of birds they are born into. How do new birds enter in the group and become a "trusted" bird? The whole time I was watching these seemingly low intelligence birds, I couldn't help but draw similarities to us.

Think about the friends you used to hang out with when you're a kid... some you maybe still see, but a great majority of them you don't. Think about your school friends from High School... everyday for four years you saw and hung out with these people, and then suddenly they leave your life forever. Aside from those select few that decide to stick around, sell you a truck, or ask you to be their best man.

I found a bird that I like... a beautiful blue songbird.

I wonder if those pigeons wonder about us...
